Each
year in December I have a gift certificate sale, wherein you can buy
gift certificates for a one hour session with me for half price. This
year, the global economic meltdown has inspired me to extend the
duration of the sale. Starting November 1st and running through
December 31st of 2008, you can buy these gift certificates for $100
each. You can buy as many as you want, and there is no expiration date.
You can buy them to use as gifts for business associates, friends and
loved ones, or you can use them for yourself as a hedge against
troubled times or to get a jump start on strategic planning for the New
Year. To purchase a gift certificate, call 805-963-0842 or email

The Cycles of the Seasons
One of the things I love most about the fall is the sports cycles. Seriously.
The hockey, football and basketball seasons begin; the baseball season
comes to a close and is at it's most exciting. The thing I love about
sports - especially baseball - is how you can have the worst moment of
your career one day and the best one the next. It is such a metaphor
for living on this planet. Another things I like
about sports - and astrology - is the statistics. Following them is so
important to making fact-based rather than emotion based-decisions.
Whether it is about sports or finances, politics or the behavior of
those you love, using facts and statistics is essential to making good
decisions and avoiding becoming a victim. Or a drama queen.

At
the harvest time (and in baseball, too) the stakes are pretty
freaking high. Astrology is, for all it's complexity, one way of
hedging your bets and using facts and statistics to make better choices
and strategies. The bits things I am giving you in these blogs are just
the very experiential generic ground zero of it. You can always go
deeper; get more specific and therefore more accurate. Always. So breathe and ground, baby, breathe and ground. And let's take a look at what's going on.

Samhain: The Spirituality of the Season
This weekend is the ancient holiday of Samhain.
Now
don't get me wrong. Before the word got hijacked and
bastardized by the punk band, a slew of dubious horror movie producers,
and Satanists, Samhain was a bona fide holiday. Seriously. For the Celts of Ireland, Samhain was not just any holiday, it was the holiday. Just so we're clear. If
that isn't enough, there is another layer of significance for Samhain
that is probably the biggest on at least spiritual and metaphysical
levels. All of the Solstices, Equinoxes and Cross-Quarter Days are
considered to be portals, a time when the walls between the differing
worlds of this life and the afterlife are thinner. But Samhain is
believed - of all the portals - to be the biggest and most powerful,
the time those walls are at their absolute thinnest.

At this time everyone's natural psychic abilities are
stronger and it is the easiest to make and have contact with the souls
of those who have passed over. As such, it is a natural time to
remember, honor and communicate with those souls belonging to our truly
beloved dead. Because of this, later cultures would turn this holiday
into All Souls Day or All Saints Day which is November first each year.
Later, the night before became Hallowmas or Halloween.
This
year, Samhain-Halloween-Hallowmas is on Friday, October 31st. So
now what, you ask? I think this time of year can be a very confusing
one to most folks. On the one hand, on a more primitive level we all
feel the intuitive tug this season brings, but on the other hand we
don't know quite what to do with it. This time of year I see a lot more
people reporting psychic experiences and vivid, powerful dreams. And
for many of us the current celebrations hold little meaning, or at
least, not enough.

For
those of you who need a little more than a lot of candy and a good
party, this is a real good time to spend a little time remembering
those who have passed on and honor the contributions and sacrifices
they made on our behalf.
If
you don't have one already, make a special place or altar in your home
that you can dedicate to the memory of those past. In, on and around
these places, put their pictures, memorabilia and items that remind you
of the joy you shared together. Say a little prayer for them, or a big
prayer, or a series of them as needs dictate. Thank them for all they
have been and done and given. In your prayers and meditations, ask
these spirits to guide, direct and protect you and your family as you
close out this harvest season and prepare to begin another. |

The Spirit of Scorpio
It is no coincidence that these holidays happen when
the Sun and many of the smaller, faster, personal planets are in this
sign. Scorpio rules the life and death cycles, ghosts and the spirit
world, and the redemption that comes from regenerating, from being
reborn. Scorpio - and the harvest season - gives us a shot at a more
conscious evolution. This time of year we can see more
clearly than ever how we got where we are, and what we have to shift in
order to get what we want. Yes, doing that, making that shift, is a
whole other conversation, but Scorpio is the strongest sign in the
Zodiac, so you get a real leg up on that right now, too. If you have
been thinking about really busting a move on something, now is
definitely the time.
This is also a good time to do any sort of depth
work, or take something deeper. It's like putting the higher octane gas
in your car - you get more mileage out of your time and energy
expenditure right now. When I was first getting in this field
professionally, there was a joke about how Scorpio and it's governing
planet, Pluto (yes, I still consider him a planet), rule other
people's, ummmm, dookie. And all those folks
that deal with it in any form or fashion: plumbers and sewer workers,
psychics and psychotherapists. And if you are in any of these fields
professionally, it can be a time when you are doing the most meaningful
work of your life. It is just easier to find and follow your path
right now. Or it should be.

The realm of Pluto and Scorpio covers a lot of things
that are really crucial this time of year. Pluto and Scorpio rule
politics, which I will cover in more depth further down in the blog and
in even more depth on my website. They also rule ambition, wealth and
power - used both rightly and wrongly - also key topics these days.
Pluto and Scorpio also rule drama and it's older, wiser sibling, detachment.
Now is a time when our inner drama queen is often tempted to make an
appearance. And oh, how nobody likes a drama queen, baby. She just
ain't welcome anywhere. As a result, we get a lot of lessons on and
practice in detachment and self control. Especially given the Mercury
Retrograde we just had. And the upcoming election. |

The 2008 Election: Referendum on American Democracy
With that said, these days I am invariably
getting a lot more people asking me astrological questions about world
politics and economics, and especially about the upcoming 2008 American
Presidential Elections. Some of you may think that a little strange,
but for those of you who do, I would respectfully remind you that
astrology has long been the mistress of politics. Since it's inception.
And so the answers are always
complicated. As you know, when you are looking at astrological
predictions and strategies, there are no shortcuts, you have to do the
math (all of it) and show your work. And when you are dealing with a
Gemini, there are no simple explanations. So here is the short version.
There is a lot more detail on my website.

So
in a nutshell, the good news is that astrologically the transits for
this election are the cleanest ones we have had in a good long while.
There is no Mercury Retrograde, no Moon Void of Course, and there is
only one retrograding planet, Uranus. Because the chart is cleaner, the
election should be, as well.
But there is a big difference between cleaner and clean. The
downside of the election day transits is pretty intense. And there are
several pieces to that. One is that pesky retrograde Uranus. He is the
ruler of elections. And surprises - things that come at you out of the
wild blue yonder - and so I would definitely expect a few. Uranus also
rules revolutions and rebellions, so if there are some serious
surprises, shenanigans in the vote count, or if there are any
assassinations (or even attempts), I would expect the American people
to be significantly less docile about it than they have been the last
two elections. Especially November 11th - 13th.
Another concern is that America's birth chart is still
undergoing a series of pretty substantial Pluto and Neptune transits.
Neptune is famous for making things cloudy and unclear, and for making
people moody, irrational and confused. Neptune also rules
deception, and while the American people are a lot wiser and more aware
of the ways in which they have been mislead and deceived, I don't think
we are out of the woods yet. We are simply ending one chapter and
beginning another - hopefully better - one.

In closing,
Samhain is always the official end of one harvest season and cycle and
the beginning of the next. But this year, the Scorpionic emphasis on
transformation and redemption is so much more powerful than usual.
Regardless of the cycles you are in, my strategies are always in some
way based on the old adage of, "hope for the best, but prepare for the worst,
so you can handle anything in between." Sort of conservative, I know,
but I feel that philosophy reflects the very best of conservatism.
This time of year, keep your hopes high, and your
contingency plans at the ready. And as you are, in effect, building a
mystery, you have to be at least a little bit surrendered to the
pace, the process, and the outcome. Stay strong and focused, open
minded and willing. Be ready to take a stand for what you believe in.
Be detached, and not a drama queen. And if you get stuck, call me.
We'll figure it out.
Blessings to you! b
