Beltane 2007
Halfway
between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice lies the marker for
the advent of summer. While it has been known by many names (the
ancient Celts called it Beltane, the Germanic Pagans called it
Walpurgisnacht), summer's official beginning has traditionally been
observed on May First or May Day, though Lunar observances are
sometimes slightly different. The Lunar Beltane this year is May 2nd,
and for those of you doing ceremony, this will definitely be the more
powerful day as the Moon is full in Scorpio (and later, void of
course). Oh, my.
In
ancient times Beltane was marked by rituals and observances that
celebrated the transition from spring to summer. Key to this
was taking appropriate actions on both the material and the
spiritual levels as the new crops were nurtured and nourished
along. Ceremonies where held to ensure the fertility of the crops,
herds and people; to ensure the abundance of future harvests,
and to purify the members of tribes and communities. Often huge
bonfires were lit, both as a means of purification and of focusing the collective consciousness.
While
contemporary Beltane celebrations are sometimes somewhat different
in practice, their purpose remains the same. Like other spiritual
observances, tolerance of others is of the utmost importance. It
doesn't matter if your observance is small and personal,
one of the large community services and celebrations held in the US and
Europe, or something in between. As long as you aren't hurting someone
else and end up feeling closer to your family, community, and
perception of God, you're in the ball park.
As we are no longer primarily an agrarian society, the crops we are now tending may be more
figurative than literal. But the same rules still apply. Be
grateful for what you have, be clear about what you want to harvest in
the fall, plant the right seeds, and tend to them lovingly, and help
your neighbor with his crops if he should ask. And as you are, in
effect, building a mystery, you have to be at least a little bit
surrendered to the pace, the process, and the outcome. On a good day,
the Zen side of all the current Pisces energy can be a tremendous
help. But on a less good day, the neediness, uncertainty and insecurity
of Pisces can be your undoing if you succumb to it. Stay strong and
focused. And if you get stuck, call me. We'll figure it out. |

Ongoing Stellium in Pisces (Still)
Yes, I know. You are all sick of and saturated with this one. It has been going on in one form or another
since about January, and you're ready to move on. I can always
tell when something has hit mission critical astrologically because I
suddenly get a dearth of "WTF" calls. And emails.
And
I've been getting them over this one for two weeks, but who's counting.
To review, whenever there are a lot of planets in one sign, it is
called a stellium, and it significantly increases the energy of
that sign AND your experience of it. The interesting thing about
this particular stellium, is that is has been going on for an ungodly amount
of time. So the pressure of the energy and it's lessons have by now
become quite great. What is interesting about this phase of the Pisces
stellium, is that while the number of planets involved has decreased,
leaving primarily Uranus and the North Node, Mars has become involved.
And that bugger is pretty much always the match in the proverbial gas
tank. Throw him in and you can count on an explosion of some sort.
The fireworks wouldn't be so big if there wasn't
already a lot of pressure built up. But there's a lot of pressure built
up. Hence my office has begun to look like a 3-D model of the night sky
on July 4th. Seriously. The thing I keep telling people
about these sorts of explosions is that they are so incredibly,
delightfully, deliciously, and embarrasingly revealing. They show us
what we are committed to, and usually it's not what we think.
Specifically, you get to choose between the moment or the
issue being a breakdown or a breakthrough. Some
days you have to go back and forth between the two before you get it
figured out. As a result, some days you go back and forth quite alot.
And that's just fine, especially given the waffle-ish nature of those
Pisces fish. As long as it gets you there, you're good with me.
Given
the revolutionary nature of Uranus and the Karmic nature of the North
Node, whatever combustions are happening for you are ultimately for
your own good, and designed to reveal and destroy your denial and
defenses in order to keep you in greater integrity with yourself.
I know, ouch. Just keep rolling with it. Our mantra around here has been, "breakdown or breakthrough, baby, down or through."
On a more positive note, one of the many upsides of this stellium is that there is more creativity in the air. Both artistically and intellectually. This
configuration forces you to face exactly where in your life and how you
are brilliantly creative. You have to own your grace. And you have to
use it. And not just to become rich and famous. You have to make the
world a better place.
Which leads us to yet another benefit of this transit: connection.
Pisces wants to connect. More than anything, it wants to merge with
another and become one, and yet it is so sensitive that when it does
something about the experience is just too much. We push off,
push away, and run (and then come running back). This
energy absolutely demands that we put aside our petty differences
and the things that divide us and find ways to work together. This
much Pisces really speaks to the humiliating learning curve that
is spiritual connection and communion. It calls you into the heart
of your spiritual principles and it asks you to live them. I am seeing
this relentless Piscean dance bring a lot of people into a greater
understanding of themselves and their faith. Specifically, I am seeing
a lot of folks finding great clarity and direction and taking great
comfort in both the Christian and Buddhist teachings on love,
forgiveness, and materialism. |

In closing, also
impacting this mix is Saturn, the Lord of Karma. Saturn went direct in
Leo April 20th after having been retrograde there since December.
Saturn brings you your heart's desire, but it's not a gimmie. He makes
you work for it, he makes you learn the lesson. With Saturn now
direct, you should begin to be getting a glympse of what you have been
working so hard for.
I
am seeing a lot of folks with Leo Suns, Moons and Rising signs
having big breakthroughs right now. I am also finding myself doing
a lot of work right now for people going through their first or second
Saturn return. For the most part, these folks are stepping in to their
power, but they are being asked to do so with great care and
consciousness. I
am also seeing a lot of Camelot's children again, folks born in the
late 50's and early 60's, in the heart of the exuberance and idealism
of the Kennedy years. This has been a very clarifying time for this
group, as they are finally coming of age: they are 1/2 - of the
way into their second Saturn cycle, and things are gelling. Finally.
There
is much relief and gratitude for what is. And there is that there
is still much time before the harvest to make adjustments. We can fine
tune our methods and actions so as to ensure that we are harvesting the
things we intended, things that will serve us and carry us through next
winter. There
is much hope and promise, joy and anticipation for the coming
year. We are connecting with each other in more meaningful and powerful
ways, learning to work together. Learning to like and enjoy and receive
it. This Piscean energy demands we learn how to compromise and
negotiate, collaborate and cooperate. It requires that we share wealth
and power, information and resources. Explore and experiment
with this energy and this time, give freely of what you find, and you
will surely find your way. And thanks for your questions, you show me
the way!
Sincerely,
